Our New Backflow Tester Course is designed to provide a solid foundation for individuals entering the field of backflow prevention, adhering to the latest AWWA CA-NV (American Water Works Association) standards. This comprehensive 5 day course covers the essential principles of backflow, water hydraulics, testing procedures, and troubleshooting techniques. 

Students will receive hands-on training with the tools and equipment used in the field, ensuring they are well-prepared to accurately perform backflow tests and meet industry standards. Upon completion of the course, participants will be equipped to sit for the AWWA CA-NV BPAT Certification Exam.

Courses are Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:30 pm PT

What you will learn in this course

  • Principles of Backflow Prevention: Understand the concepts of backflow and cross-connection, and their importance in protecting public water supplies.
  • Concepts of Hydraulics: Learn the basic concepts of hydraulics as they relate to the theory of backflow prevention and cross-connection control.
  • Types of Backflow Assemblies: Gain knowledge of various backflow prevention assemblies, including Reduced Pressure Principle assemblies, Double Check Valve assemblies, Pressure Vacuum Breakers, and Spill-resistant Vacuum Breakers.
  • Testing and Troubleshooting Procedures: Learn step-by-step procedures for backflow tests and correct testing procedures for troubleshooting backflow assembly failures.
  • Practical Hands-on Training: Practice testing and troubleshooting procedures in our indoor wet lab. Each student has access to their own test stand with all four assembly types.
  • Safety and Regulations: Explore safety and regulations related to backflow prevention.
  • Preparation to take the certification exam: This course is designed to prepare students to take the written and hands-on BPAT Certification Exam. Test stands are able to simulate all possible failures for the hands-on exam.

No, the student must register and pay for the BPAT exam directly with AWWA CA-NV. This course covers the training and contact hours necessary to take the exam.

Yes, you will be provided with your own copy of the USC Manual of Cross-Connection Control, 10th Edition. We also provide various study guides and tools, such as quizzes and diagrams.

Bring a notebook and pen or pencil for taking notes. You are welcome to bring your own test kit and tools if you have them, but it is not necessary. All testing equipment and tools needed for the course will be available.

Not at this time. The USC Manual and all BPAT exams are available only in English.

AWWA CA-NV recertification typically occurs every 3 years. Check with your local water authority for specific requirements in your area.

There are no prerequisites for the 5-Day New BPAT certification course.

Yes, upon successfully completing any course you will receive a certificate for contact hours.

Refund/Transfer Policy
Requests for refunds and transfers must be made in writing and are subject to the following conditions: 

– A full refund of fees paid will be issued for cancellation requests received more than 10 days prior to class start date. All fees are non-refundable thereafter. 

– Transfers to a different cohort are based on availability. Transfer requests may not be authorized if they are not received more than 10 days prior to class start date. 

– A 100% refund or credit of your registration fee will be issued if a class is cancelled by Backflow Distributors.-
